For new employees we have a 3 phase training program that takes 6-9 months to complete. During the first phase our main focus is learning the names and personalities of the dogs at camp, we also work on reading canine body language and knowing when to re-direct inappropriate behavior. Play-groups will be small and the trainee will be in the direct supervision of a trained employee.
In the 2nd phase the new employee will work on playgroup selection, puppy play (what’s appropriate and when they need a break), how to boost shy and low confidence dogs, stopping play before it gets too rough, and who needs a time-out. Once we feel they have a good grasp on the basic skills we start working on putting everything together. We continue to work on recognizing body language and knowing when to stop or re-direct behavior. After about 9 months some employees will begin training on new dog evaluations.
Completing this training takes about 6 months. During the 3rd phase of training all employees are also required to complete canine First Aid/CPR training.
